THROUGHOUT THE MORNING, UTILITY CREWS WERE WORKING TO RESTORE SERVICE TO TENS OF THOUSANDS OF CUSTOMERS AROUND THE STATE. FOR THESE FIREFIGHTERS AND SOMERSWORTH, THAT MEANT DOING DOUBLE DUTY AS A TREE CREW IN ORDER TO MAKE SURE ROADS ARE PASSABLE. THAT IS ONE OF THE THINGS HAMPERING EVERSOURCE IS ABILITY TO KNOW EXACT WHAT THEY’RE DEALING WITH. ONE OF THE FIRST PRIORITIES IS WORKING WITH OUR PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICIALS TO TO ADDRESS THOSE BLOCKED ROADS. AND THEN ASSESS THE DAMAGE. AND WITH THE SYSTEM TAKING DAMAGE, WELL, UNTIL LAST NIGHT, THOSE DAMAGE ASSESSMENT EFFORTS STILL CONTINUE. RICK GALLO WAS ONE OF THOSE WHO SPENT THE NIGHT WITHOUT POWER. WE HEARD A LOT OF BRANCHES COMING DOWN AROUND THE HOUSE. AND, YOU KNOW, AFTER A WHILE, THE WIND STARTED TO PICK UP AND ALL OF A SUDDEN, ABOUT 1030, THE POWER WENT OUT IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. GENERATORS WERE RUNNING. I’M SURE THERE’S A LOT OF BRANCHES DOWN AROUND TOWN KNOCKING OUT THE POWER, INCLUDING A BURNED BRANCH NEAR NATHAN, CHARLIE’S HOME. IT WAS SPARKING. AND SO YOU COULD SEE, LIKE, THE FLASHING. AND THEN I CAME OUT AND I COULD SEE THE BUSH. HE WAS ON FIRE. AND THEN THE LIGHTS WENT OUT. WE’VE LIVED HERE 15 YEARS, AND THIS IS THE LONGEST THAT WE’VE BEEN WITHOUT THE BIGGEST CONCERN FOR MANY STAYING WARM. BUT MOST SAID OVERNIGHT IT WASN’T TOO BAD. AND AS FAR AS TODAY GOES, IT MEANT FINDING WARMTH WHEREVER YOU CAN. SUCH AS ENJOYING A BIG BAY WINDOW WARMED BY THE SUN. WITH ANOTHER STORM HEADING OUR WAY TOMORROW, EVERSOURCE SAYS ONE OF THE THINGS THEY’RE DOING IS SENDING HELICOPTERS OUT TO CHECK THE LINES FOR POTENTIAL TROUBLE SPOTS IN ADVANCE OF THAT STORM.
