I debated whether to post anything but I feel like if I don’t comment on the sad news that Shaun Brooke passed away recently, I would be doing him a disservice. I met Shaun in 2012 at Kloud, my first Workday consultant job. He had many years of Peoplesoft consulting experience with Solidnet and he had Workday absence experience even though it was early days in EMEA. I was a nerd moving out of HR. For a good long while Shaun and I were the absence team, figuring out things that have been shared thousands of times since. I was so lucky to do my absence and TT certs in Pleasanton, both times with Shaun who knew the place like the back of his hand. He drove us everywhere including down Lombard Street. We went to Alcatraz and did all the San Fran tourist things - all the while Shaun helping me with my camera settings. We did really badly at a Forest Gump themed restaurant quiz cos neither of us had seen the film but the berry margaritas with corona tipped in were amazing. We ate at In N out where I was introduced to animal fries. We bought matching ‘zombie in a boot’ Christmas tree ornaments. We went to my first ever Altitude together and he introduced me to everyone he knew, which was a LOT of people. Those early days were sometimes stressful, but I had Shaun and we had some truly great times troubleshooting absence together. After many, many attempts, he got me to see the incredible value in evaluating calculations. And there was nothing better than when Shaun would run off to grab his bass guitar on a call because ‘noodling’ helped him think. We drifted in later years, when he went back to his real passion (Payroll) and I moved on from Aon. But we exchanged messages at Christmas when Zombie in a Boot hit the tree once more. Shaun was kind, generous, had a wicked sense of humour and was a huge, awesome part of the first half of my Workday career. Thank you Shaun, for everything, rest easy.

I missed a work anniversary in June - 9 years as a Workday Absence Consultant! What have I learned… My hair has improved since 2012 😂 My left side is definitely my best side (brain and face!) And since the Workday Partner Product Lead program started in April 2014 I have amassed more than 5000 community points. (Another milestone I managed to miss in the chaos of 2021!)
